Advancing Well Cement Technology: Insights from Materials Today 2023
In the COMPASS project, groundbreaking advancements in well cement technology are crucial for ensuring the reliability of geothermal wells in extreme conditions.
Novel foam cement solutions are being developed to enhance the flexibility of well systems, mitigating thermal stresses in the casing and improving overall well integrity.
During the Materials Today 2023 conference in Singapore, Hieu Hoang (SINTEF) and his team presented their work on “Novel retarder solutions for HPHT well cements.” Their innovative approach aims to improve the pumpability of cement slurries at HPHT conditions (up to 250°C) and ensure controlled curing of well cement on-site with optimal mechanical properties. This work is paving the way for more sustainable and durable geothermal drilling practices.
