Gunnar Gunnarsson from OR attended the workshop and presented the deep utilization efforts of Reykjavik Energy (OR – Orkuveitan Reykjavikur), both the Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP) and hybrid superhot EGS, i.e., injection into superhot formations below conventional high-enthalpy wells.
The presentation mentioned that a new well design is needed to successfully realize production from superhot formations. The COMPASS solutions of flexible casing systems for stress mitigation and cladding for corrosion resistance, were introduced as a potential viable path to solve known issues with superhot production wells in an economically sound way.
